LUANDA, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The European Union has granted 38 million U.S. dollars to aid a total of 30,000 peasant families of Angola's central Huila and Cuanza Sul Provinces during the 2020/21 agricultural campaign, official said on Monday.

Delivered through the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the amount is being used for implementing the Family Agriculture and Marketing Project, which is underway for the third year in 10 of the country's 18 provinces, said David Tunga, national director of the Agrarian Development Institute (IDA).

Several tons of maize, fertilizers and others have already been purchased, Tunga said, acknowledging that the amount distributed is still insufficient to meet the agricultural development program due to pandemic-ravaged global economy.

He added that the IDA is working to build community capacity through field schools for farmers to learn various cultivation techniques.
